Fort Williams, Maine Permanent post, located at Portland Head, Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland County. Named in honor of Brig. Gen. Seth Williams, U. S. V. (Bvt. Maj. Gen. U. S. V.), a distinguished veteran of the Mexican and Civil Wars. Acquired by purchase, 1872-73 with an area of about 90 acres. It is the Headquarters and station of the Coast Defenses of Portland, North Atlantic Coast Artillery District.
